OH NO: Trump Lawyer's Rudy Giuliani & Sidney Powell Subpoenaed by Trump Riot Committee
Some of the latest Trump associates to get wrapped up in the January 6th investigation are attorneys Rudy Giuliani, Sidney Powell, Jenna Ellis, and Boris Epshteyn. All four have been subpoenaed by the congressional committee which will force them to hand over documents and possibly participate in interviews. It’s unclear whether any of them will comply with the demands, and if they don’t, they open themselves up to possible charges for contempt of Congress. The committee tweeted about the decision, “the four individuals advanced unsupported theories about election fraud, pushed efforts to overturn election results, or were in direct contact with the former President.” The Giuliani subpoena relates to the then-president’s state of mind when he was on a campaign to reverse the election results along with the claims the former New York City mayor made on television and in court. By now, the investigation has reached just about every major player pushing the “big lie” narrative that resulted in the events of January 6, 2021.
Sweaty Trump Interview Goes Horribly Wrong, SLAMS Mitch McConnell
Donald Trump did an interview last weekend with John Bachman on Newsmax in connection with the rally he did in Florence, Arizona. Trump was asked about Anthony Fauci and said he “wasn’t a big factor in my administration, but Biden has made him a big factor.” The ex-POTUS then criticized the Biden administration for doing a “horrible job” on COVID. Trump was asked what he would do differently on COVID policy if he was still president. He responded, “well one thing, no mandates. The mandates are killing our economy.” There is no evidence at all that vaccine requirements are damaging to the US economy but Trump felt comfortable making the claim without having any evidence to back it up. Later in the interview, Trump played his “greatest hits” from 2015 and complained about migrants entering through the southern border and damaging states like Arizona and Texas. These types of interviews give insight to the Republican strategy for 2022 and unsurprisingly it sounds like much of the same.

Supreme Court REJECTS Trump Request to Block White House Riot Records
The Supreme Court has rejected Donald Trump’s request to block the release of White House records to the congressional January 6th committee. This ruling will enable more than 700 pages in the National Archives to be reviewed by the commission. Trump and his lawyers have repeatedly tried to get President Biden to block these documents by way of executive privilege, something Biden has declined to do. Because of this, the decision played out in the courts, with the Supreme Court ruling 8-1 on Wednesday. The one justice who dissented and wanted to grant Trump’s application for an injunction was Clarence Thomas, who is typically seen as the most right-wing member of the court. The January 6th committee Chairman Bennie Thompson and Vice Chair Liz Cheney said about this decision, “the Select Committee has already begun to receive records that the former President had hoped to keep hidden and we look forward to additional productions regarding this important information.” Clearly Trump had a lot to hide in these documents and soon Congress will know exactly what that was. Perhaps at some point the American public will as well.
From yesterday’s show:
Voting Rights Bill Collapses, Dems Unable to Change Filibuster
The voting rights bill in Congress appears to be dead because Democrats were unable to change the filibuster rule in the Senate. After a long debate, two Democratic senators, Joe Manchin and Kyrsten Sinema, refused to join the rest of their party in supporting the rule change that requires the support of 60 senators to end debate on a bill. This means the Republicans will be able to obstruct voting rights legislation and a number of other bills that don’t have significant bipartisan support. President Biden released a statement after the vote saying he is “not deterred” and will “explore every measure and use every tool at our disposal to stand up for democracy.” The question now turns to what Democrats can get done before the midterms with 51 votes in the Senate and via executive order by Joe Biden. Certainly Democrats would have been able to get a lot more done if the filibuster rule was no longer in place, but that would also be true for Republicans the next time they’re able to take control.
