On November 1, 42 million Americans lost their food assistance, including 16 million children, 8 million seniors, and 4 million people with disabilities. The Trump administration froze SNAP benefits despite $6 billion in emergency funds approved by Congress. Two federal judges ruled the freeze illegal, but the administration has not released the funds. Families are struggling while Trump officials call the program bloated. This comes after Trump already cut $187 billion from SNAP, the largest reduction in its history.
Trump spent Halloween hosting a lavish party at Mar-a-Lago. Gold décor, smoke machines, and dancers in giant cocktail glasses made it look like a scene from The Hunger Games while families worried about feeding their kids. Trump claims to fight for working people, but this celebration with billionaires while cutting aid shows he does not care.
JD Vance may face problems with the MAGA base because his wife, Usha, is Indian and Hindu. MAGA activists have attacked Vivek Ramaswamy for being Hindu, showing the base is intolerant of non-Christian identities. Vance has suggested his wife embrace Christianity, likely to appeal to evangelical voters.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent admitted on live TV that parts of the U.S. economy are in recession. This contradicts the administration’s claims of strength. Bessent blamed the Federal Reserve and called it a transition period. This admission suggests the economic situation may be worse than the administration is willing to admit.
Trump’s 60 Minutes interview was a disaster. He claimed to have ended eight wars, including conflicts the U.S. was not involved in. When asked about pardoning Binance founder Changpeng Zhao, Trump said he had no idea who he was. He dodged questions about a third term and defended harsh immigration raids against nonviolent workers. CBS cut portions of the interview, but what aired was still rambling, incoherent, and full of contradictions.
