I really don't think most Americans have the sense of being THE globe's super power, for sure, not anymore. At one point......oh....anytime before 10 years ago, the world, may have, even if begrudgingly, thought of us as just that. That is no longer up for debate.

Are we talking reality and medical science or wishful thinking, creative imagination? Very little that Trump says is true. Why would anyone trust this so-called medical assessment? His weight is not 224#...more like 250# or 260#. He may have lymphedema but probably as a consequence of congestive heart failure. It is impossible that he does not have adult onset diabetes mellitus type II, AODM-II, non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH). He has to be hypertensive. Additionally, at 80, his brain has reduced volume (remember the MRI?)...He has not done an excercise tolerance test, or none that we know of... so we have no idea about his heart functions. ...or even an echo. We need pulmonary function studies. ...and colonoscopy. "Perfect?" but what standards? Maybe for JFK, Jr.'s non-medical standards. ...and cognitive testing? This is meaningless. I wish him many years but truth would be good.
EB, not that it matters but I recall he had a colonoscopy during his first admin and he stayed awake! He feared going under because he would have to relinquish his presidency for an hour or so. I find that completely hilarious. You made very good points, of course since you are a doctor, we are retired, on Medicare and know all our numbers, I am aggressive keeping our health in check for our golden years.
I think the US is still salvageable, but we are closer to crumbling than most would like to believe. Most of our institutions are in ruin -- the media, the healthcare system, the economy, the Supreme Court, the IRS -- mostly due to greed and racism. Those financially at the top are in charge of these things and getting richer by the minute, so I doubt we will ever hear a peep about it until it is too late. Unless we get money out of politics and overturn Citizen's United, we are stuck and doomed unfortunately.
Trump has to overcompensate for his tiny dick somehow. He has damaged us at least for the foreseeable future. Will we ever regain the respect and leadership we once had? Maybe, but broken trust is very difficult, if not impossible, to fix. To rebuild that trust, we will have to work our way back up. Although I hate trump for what he is doing to us, I think we needed to be knocked down to size as we have gotten far too arrogant and self-important.
So true; it didn't take him long to destroy our global standing.
But it could take decades to repair that standing, if at all.
