Today is Tuesday, October 7, 2025, and this is your news and preview of today’s show.
Air travel across the United States is in chaos as the Trump administration’s government shutdown enters its second week. The FAA has issued widespread ground delays, and some control towers are operating without full staffing. At Burbank Airport in California, the tower closed completely on Monday, leaving pilots to coordinate takeoffs and landings on their own. Controllers nationwide are working unpaid and reporting exhaustion from extended shifts. Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy blamed Democrats for the shutdown, while small airports risk losing Essential Air Service programs that connect rural towns to the rest of the country.
Economic concerns are mounting inside the White House. Trump economic adviser Kevin Hassett said China has stopped buying U.S. soybeans, leaving silos full and crops under tarps. The administration is reaching out to other countries to buy American soy and preparing aid for farmers. Hassett added that the current focus is keeping the government open amid growing disruptions.
President Trump held an Oval Office press conference yesterday. Asked about pardoning convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell, Trump said he would “take a look” and consult the Justice Department. He claimed he had “ended seven wars” through trade policy and tariffs and said he would invoke the Insurrection Act “if it became necessary,” citing violence in Portland.
Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt defended the administration, challenging reporters on claims about crime in Portland and military deployment in U.S. cities. She cited disputed statistics on drug prices and said the FBI is investigating Antifa financing.
In a Newsmax interview, Trump criticized the NFL for selecting artist Bad Bunny for the Super Bowl halftime show and suggested changing the kickoff rule. He also claimed he had “saved Los Angeles because Newsom didn’t have any water,” which California officials say is inaccurate.
Finally, prominent podcast hosts and influencers once aligned with Trump are distancing themselves. Joe Rogan, Theo Von, Adin Ross, and Andrew Schulz—who promoted Trump during his 2024 campaign—are publicly backing away amid backlash over immigration raids and political unrest.
Finally, Mike Nellis, Democratic strategist and social impact entrepreneur, joins me for a Substack Live.
