Trump has always been unhinged. His whole Administration is unhinged. He is unfit for office and anyone appointed by him is also unfit.

Dictatorship? seems like it 😕

Nothing says you are doing a great job better than hiding all the evidence.

Hiding the economic data will only elevate Americans to demand its exposure.

Another reason that BLS needs to be independent and not under the thumb of T.

People have a 'sense' of the economic realities of life. This became obvious way back during the "Occupy Wallstreet" 'movement. Nobody could clarify what it was about, certainly not those demonstrating, but it spread nationwide immediately, with zero funding (unlike the 'Tea Party'). They may not know the source or who would make it better, but they know it is a problem. AI is an 'accelerant' to their concerns and Trump's chaos (including immigrants and tariffs etc...) is not going to help ease their worries.

A smart dictator would at least be trying to make the people's lives better in SOME respects.

Russ's avatar

Stop at the second word. Dictators are not there to make other lives better, just their own.

Mussolini made the trains run on time. In the final analysis, despite what everyone says, the people are the ones who allow their government to 'rule'. Countries which have been 'conquered', who truly objected, fought overwhelming forces until the invaders left. The smart dictators keep the people 'happy enough' to not resist. yes, they want the power and all the rest, but like any fine car, if you want to keep it fine, you have to maintain it. North Korea keeps the people happy by lying to them. Russia does a somewhat better job at quality of life for their people, but they too lie a lot and try to keep their people in the dark, even so Putin is VERY worried about the people revolting.

Democracy is essentially a 'virtual war'. The value of a functional democracy is that it prevents all the very expensive (in so many ways) civil wars and wars of succession. History is FULL of those wars. The real danger behind Trump succeeding at 'killing' our democracy is that the people will rise up and that kind of uprising, while essential, will be painful for everyone. See the 2024 movie civil war. Sure, it is hard to believe California and Texas would ever agree on anything, but aside from that, it shows the horrors of a civil war, and the inevitable result.

Winston Churchill and Franklin Delano Roosevelt couldn't do chin-ups, but guess what, chin-ups are not required in any way to run a nation successfully - macho bullshit by knuckleheads helps nobody.

America has turned into a very sick country under this Trump regime.

That's all he ever does -is flip out--[--morning, noon and night! When God, will we get relief from this evil entity!?

Sorry, that is our job. God often sets challenges for us, so that we can grow, become better. Part of Trump's 'problem' is that in his life, his fathers money made all his problems go away. Trump learned that cheating got him what he wanted. He was never taught the hard lessons of why it is wrong to lie. He learned being a bully got him what he wanted...

Our job is to stand up to him, call out his lies, his behavior as a bully, all the "evil" things he is and does. Trump is the ideal lesson for the world of a bad person and how we need to condemn that behavior, not tolerate it, stand up and stop him.

God… this is so depressing. Are we at the precipice of our Jose Ortega moment?

I'm kinda scared

A not unreasonable response to the situation. Fear is a natural response to chaos where lots of pathways lead to results that cause lots of death and misery. Fear is a great motivator and focuses our efforts to address the source of the fear. The important thing to remember is to not let fear control your actions or your choices. Fear is not a smart decision maker. Instead think of it as a very sophisticated alarm system, designed to demand your attention to a potential problem.

David - I really enjoy these "previews" of what you'll be covering each day. They are very informative and wet my appetite for the full podcast. Thanks so much.

Yes! Said a lot for all of us! Thank you Cynthia!

Yeah, Bunkerboy's a-brains are mush. The Alzheimer's and the evil demon, Steven Miller, are in complete control of OUR government thanks to the Traitors that didn't vote or voted for King "Kong Traitor!"

You got what you wanted, 75%+ of the voting public!

And this is just another extension of this administration's and the republican party's historic and systemic efforts to keep the populace mis and dis informed. As examplified by their patented underfunding of our educational systems. Their patented efforts to "KEEP EM DUMBED DOWN". Dumbies are easier to BS and blatantly lie to. And the vast majority of the average trump supporter falls headlong into this catagory. IPSO FACTO ! !

MAGA is the Christian version of the Muslim Fascist Brotherhood. They believe in one-time elections and, after winning, establish a totalitarian regime. Some of my liberal friends complain that the differences between the two parties have become like the Sunni vs. Shia struggle in Islam. However, I absolutely disagree because we are the good, gentle people who seek respect for all humans, while MAGA is all based on hate and the superiority of white rich elites.

Taco has us in a plane flying through a mountain range on a dark night, and he just took away the altimeter, fuel gauge and landing wheels. But he is a genius businessman who will carry us through on gut feelings. Just trust him.
