PREVIEW: Divisions grow and everything becomes a conspiracy

Morning newscast for September 19, 2025

Today is Friday, September 19, 2025, and this is your news and preview of today's show.

The United States is deeply divided, and the real split is not race, class, or religion. The fault line runs between those who see change as expanding who belongs and those who see it as a threat to their way of life. Immigration, race, abortion, gender, religion, voting, the economy, guns, and even climate change all map onto this same divide. One side sees inclusion and progress, the other sees invasion and decline. That is the fracture shaping every major conflict in American life.

In Utah, prosecutors have charged 22-year-old Tyler Robinson with aggravated murder for the September 10 shooting of Charlie Kirk at a campus event. They say they will seek the death penalty and cite text messages, surveillance video, and digital evidence tying Robinson to the crime. But online, conspiracy theories spread within hours, with claims that evidence was doctored or staged. Commentators including Candace Owens and Alex Jones amplified those doubts, continuing a pattern seen after Trump’s rally shooting, 9/11, and Sandy Hook.

Vice President J.D. Vance is facing backlash after joking about U.S. strikes on boats overseas, telling people he “wouldn’t go fishing right now.” The comment treats potential civilian deaths as a punchline. The administration has not walked back the remark but insists it remains committed to minimizing harm to civilians.

Representative Marjorie Taylor Greene is calling for what she calls a “peaceful national divorce.” She wrote on social media that America is too far gone, that Republicans won’t fix it, and that people should turn to faith and family instead of Washington. The statement undermines her own party and raises concerns about secessionist rhetoric inside Congress.

And in California, Governor Gavin Newsom hit back at Donald Trump after Trump falsely claimed he personally approved low-income housing permits and mishandled wildfire response. Newsom’s office responded, “Take your dementia meds, grandpa.” Illinois Governor J.B. Pritzker added that Trump may be suffering memory problems. The White House fired back, calling the comments “stupid” and blaming Trump Derangement Syndrome.
