Today is Tuesday, July 29th, 2025, and this is your news and preview of today's show.

President Donald Trump is facing backlash from within his political base after refusing to rule out a pardon for Ghislaine Maxwell. When asked by a reporter, Trump said, “I’m allowed to do it,” offering no clear denial. House Speaker Mike Johnson condemned the idea on national TV, calling Maxwell’s actions “monstrous.” Congressman Thomas Massie also distanced himself, saying she should testify if she has information.

In a recent appearance, Trump made a series of confusing remarks about Epstein and their history. He said he didn’t have “the privilege” of being invited to Epstein’s island and claimed Epstein once stole his staff. He also suggested the Epstein files were manipulated by officials like James Comey and Merrick Garland, calling the case a “hoax.” Trump made these statements during a trip abroad that included a meeting with UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer—who appeared visibly confused by Trump’s rambling delivery.

Trump’s European trip included the launch of a new golf course, billed by his team as an official diplomatic event. Reports estimate the trip cost taxpayers roughly $10 million. At the event, Trump claimed credit for stopping “about five wars” but gave no specifics. Video also showed him swatting away insects while speaking to the press.

According to The Daily Beast, Trump is reacting to the renewed Epstein focus with increasing frustration behind the scenes. Sources say he’s in “meltdown mode,” lashing out at aides over the fallout. The scandal continues to dominate headlines and social media, despite Trump’s efforts to discredit it.

Podcast host Joe Rogan, once supportive of Trump, is now publicly criticizing his handling of the Epstein scandal. In a recent episode, Rogan accused Trump of “gaslighting” the public by failing to deliver on promises to release Epstein’s files. The shift is notable, as Rogan holds sway among millions of conservative and independent listeners.

JD Vance defended Trump in an interview, saying he “has nothing to hide” and supports transparency—despite Trump’s refusal to release Epstein documents.

Also on today's show, Martin O'Malley, former Governor of Maryland and former commissioner of the Social Security Administration under the Biden administration, joins me to discuss Trump and Republicans' attacks on Social Security.
