Today is Wednesday, July 23rd, 2025, and this is your news and preview of today's show.
Donald Trump continued a string of controversial public remarks this week. In a speech, he accused former President Barack Obama of treason, alleging without evidence that Obama led a coup against him and was involved in election rigging. Trump also claimed Hillary Clinton, Joe Biden, and others were part of this supposed conspiracy. Trump went on to demand Obama’s arrest live on air.
In response, Barack Obama delivered a pointed rebuttal, dismissing the claims as baseless and criticizing Trump’s record and behavior. Obama emphasized the dangers of normalizing unfounded accusations from those in power.
Meanwhile, Trump lashed out at late-night host Jimmy Kimmel, claiming Kimmel and others are talentless and hinting he played a role in network changes. In a separate post, Trump celebrated a reported $36 million settlement in a lawsuit against CBS and 60 Minutes, calling it a win against "Fake News Media."
In a TV appearance, Trump surrogate Scott Bessent sparked confusion when he disputed that American consumers pay tariffs. Despite economic consensus that tariffs function as import taxes paid by U.S. businesses (and often passed to consumers), Bessent suggested companies simply absorb the cost. Analysts and commentators have challenged the accuracy of that claim.
On economic policy, Trump said drug prices would be reduced by 1,000 percent, and claimed gas prices had dropped to $1.99 in several states—figures that contradict official data. He also threatened to ban European car imports if pharmaceutical companies don’t comply.
When asked about Ghislaine Maxwell, Trump said he had no knowledge of the DOJ’s reported outreach to her, then pivoted back to claims about Obama.
In legal news, Trump lawyer Alina Habba’s nomination for a U.S. Attorney position was rejected by a panel of judges, raising questions about the qualifications of candidates being proposed for key legal roles.
A separate moment of concern emerged during a live Fox Business interview when 73-year-old Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana appeared to freeze mid-sentence while discussing immigration and religion. The brief silence was brushed off by hosts as a technical glitch, but no official explanation has followed.
Colorado Governor Jared Polis joins us to discuss the consequences of the Republican tax legislation, which is going to devastate Medicaid recipients and rural hospitals.
