Today is Thursday, July 31st, 2025, and this is your news and preview of today's show.

Former Vice President Kamala Harris has announced she will not run for governor of California, a decision that has fueled speculation that she is positioning herself for a third presidential campaign in 2028. Harris released a statement saying her leadership will not be in elected office “for now” and that she will help elect Democrats while sharing more details on her future plans in the coming months.

Meanwhile, the Trump administration has unveiled a national health data initiative in partnership with over 60 companies including Apple, Google, Amazon, and CVS. The program will allow for the digitization and sharing of medical records such as medications, weight, lab results, and mental health history.

Trump Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent has confirmed that the administration aims to privatize Social Security through the introduction of “Trump Savings Accounts.” The plan would shift retirement savings into private investment markets, replacing guaranteed public benefits with market-based returns. The move has reignited concerns about financial risk, fees, and loss of protections for retirees and the disabled.

Also, Trump appeared at a press event where he made a series of confusing remarks, including vague figures about trade with Europe and a misunderstanding of a question about “burn bags” allegedly containing Russiagate materials. In another exchange, he insisted the Epstein files were old news and accused Democrats of using them for political purposes.

At a separate event, Trump was seen struggling to stay alert during a roundtable discussion, and video showed him nodding off while seated next to Dr. Oz. Trump also directed renewed criticism at Federal Reserve Chair Jerome Powell, calling him “too late” and “too political,” after Powell reaffirmed the Fed’s independence and declined to respond to political pressure over interest rates.

Separately, Trump’s FDA Commissioner claimed on national television that he knows of one friend whose parent died due to the COVID-19 vaccine. The anecdotal statement came without data and marked a departure from his prior evidence-based critiques.

Finally, Lena Gonzalez, California Senate Majority Leader and Chair of the California Latino Legislative Caucus, joins us to discuss the devastating impact of Trump's immigration raids.
