Historically the party in the White House losses seats in off-year elections. The 2026 midterms will be a bloodbath for the GOP all thanks to Trump. Look at recent special elections. A black man was elected Democratic mayor of Omaha, Nebraska, a deep red city in a deep red state that Trump carried handily. And then there's the special election in Wisconsin to fill a State Supreme Court vacancy. Elon Musk tried to buy the election by giving out $1 million checks to voters. The seat was won by a Democrat by ten points (Musk can forget about forming a third party with a winning streak like that).
More importantly, keep an eye on gubernatorial elections in New Jersey and Virginia. A Democratic win in both those states, which appears to be likely, will be the death sentence for the GOP.
I am pretty confident that Musk would pull more votes from Trump (people who could never bring themselves to vote for a Democrat) than from a Democrat candidate.
