Today is Wednesday, September 10, 2025, and this is your news and preview of today's show.

For the first time since Russia invaded Ukraine in 2022, a NATO country has fired in self-defense. Poland reports that nineteen Russian drones entered its airspace during a large-scale strike on Ukraine. Polish forces shot down those that posed a threat, and the country’s prime minister called the incident a major provocation, saying Europe is now “the closest we’ve been to war since World War II.” Warsaw has triggered Article 4 of the NATO treaty, calling for urgent consultations with allies. European leaders are promising increased readiness and new sanctions, while the United States has so far issued no significant response.

In Washington, Donald Trump is facing growing fallout from newly released documents connected to Jeffrey Epstein. The House Oversight Committee has made public an alleged birthday letter Trump sent Epstein in 2003. The letter includes a crude drawing of a woman with Trump’s name written on it and ends with the line, “A pal is a wonderful thing.” The White House says the signature does not match Trump’s current one, but handwriting comparisons show similarities to earlier versions. Trump has dismissed the matter as a “dead issue” and refused further comment.

Meanwhile, White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt emerged in front of reporters, denying that Trump signed the letter or other documents connected to Epstein. She cited signature analysts who dispute its authenticity and accused Democrats of fabricating evidence. When pressed on economic concerns, Leavitt defended Trump’s tariff policies and rejected the suggestion they could push the country toward a depression.

Trump himself was confronted in public last night during a visit to a Washington, D.C., restaurant. Protesters called for his removal and chanted against him, with some labeling him “the Hitler of our time.” The president reportedly asked for the protesters to be escorted out.

Finally, Dan Pfeiffer, Pod Save America co-host and former senior Obama advisor, joins me for a conversation on Substack Live.
