Donald Trump fired Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem in a major shake-up, the first of his second term. Noem’s public missteps, controversial hearings, and expensive self-promotional ads reportedly frustrated Trump, especially after she claimed he approved $220 million in spending. He reassigned her to the vague role of “Special Envoy for the Shield of the Americas” and Oklahoma Senator Markwayne Mullin will be replacing her.
Amid media focus on culture wars, the real unifying issue for Americans is economic inequality and concentrated power. Topics like trans athletes get disproportionate attention, while housing, health care, wages, and rising prices affect nearly everyone. The deeper divide is not left versus right but elites versus ordinary citizens.
Trump’s Labor Secretary, Lori Chavez-DeRemer, is under investigation for allegedly using taxpayer money for personal expenses, including her birthday party at the Department of Labor. The event was disguised as a “swearing-in celebration,” but photos show her blowing out candles on a cake. Investigators are also examining personal travel spending.
Former Customs and Border Protection chief Gregory Bovino is under criminal investigation in Minneapolis for actions during Operation Metro Surge, which included federal deployments resulting in deaths and alleged abuses. Video shows Bovino throwing a gas canister at protesters.
Gas prices are spiking after Trump’s military action against Iran, creating panic in the White House. Closing the Strait of Hormuz drove Brent crude from $72 to over $82 a barrel, raising U.S. gas prices by roughly 12% in five days. The administration is scrambling for solutions while downplaying the issue publicly.
Larry Kudlow and other allies claim that by bombing Iran, Trump is “ending a war,” redefining aggression as peace to protect his anti-war image. This rhetoric attempts to reconcile his campaign promise to avoid conflicts with his escalation in the Middle East.
Finally, Marjorie Taylor Greene, once a staunch MAGA ally, criticized Trump’s Iranian escalation and questioned his mindset. She suggested that if he doesn’t believe he’s going to heaven, his decisions may no longer be morally grounded. Speaking in evangelical terms, she signaled to religious voters that Trump’s actions could diverge from their expectations.
