If the victim spoke up I did not comply and lick their boots they would charge them with obstruction. They would take them to the ground give them a free ride on the taser and charge them with crimes that they didn’t commit. Some black men were stopped three times in one day and harassed and threatened and terrorized by goons from the NYPD. Yes, fear is real, and fear can dissuade, however what I am seeing is the opposite. Every time Trump pushes to make the people fear him, his polling goes down, and more people step up to oppose. I see peaceful demonstrations in freezing weather. I see people protesting naked or in ridiculous costumes to show they are willing to be vulnerable in the face of violence from ICE.
Bravery is not the lack of fear, it is the willingness to do what is right in the face of fear. To peacefully, without weapons face down ICE 'soldiers' that have shown a willingness to brutalize and even kill those who do so, shows incredible strength, and I am seeing that in huge numbers.
I saw two senior aged sisters interviewed in the streets in a town besieged, out there to show solidarity. Since we have now seen a white woman citizen and a white man citizen shot by ICE when not threatened, no one is assuming 'priviledge' anymore.
