I've known trans people and doctors who cared for them. Puberty blockers don't stop growth, they only prevent the body from producing the hormones that can cause breast development and menstruation in girls and beard growth, voice deepening, enlarged Adam's apple, etc. Once these are stopped, pubertal changes will resume unless hormones of the gender the individual favors are taken. If they start hormones, they will start having the hormonal changes they would have had if born in their preferred biological body. I don't know of any doctors that will prescribe hormones or puberty blockers without the young person going through counseling. It should be noted that puberty blockers are also used for medical treatment of other conditions.
You say that what Dr. Janette Nesheiwat requests concerning trans kids is already being done.
I disagree. I have a trans grandchild.
There is no counseling or therapy available to help examine where the desire to be another gender comes from. If a therapist or doctor does anything except affirm the petson's choice, it is considered conversion therapy and the person can lose their license.
What needs to change is to help these young people (especially puberty age) deal with their emotions and changing bodies. This isn't being done. The first time my grandchild told their doctor they thought they were trans, the next sentence out of the doctor's mouth was " Would you like a prescription for hormones?" I was there, I heard it.
Kids can't get a tattoo under the age of 18 because they are not emotionally mature enough, but they can take hormones that can change their body and fertility for the rest of their lives?
