Democrats scored a series of striking election wins, highlighted by Eileen Higgins becoming Miami’s first Democratic mayor in nearly 30 years with a 19-point margin, despite low turnout. Similar leftward swings appeared across Florida, Georgia, Tennessee, Virginia, and New Jersey, with multiple races shifting 14 to 21 points toward Democrats compared to previous cycles. These results are a serious rebuke of Donald Trump, whose endorsed candidate in Miami lost badly, and they raise alarm bells for the GOP heading into 2026.
Donald Trump traveled to Mount Pocono, Pennsylvania, for a major economic speech on affordability, inflation, and prices, but the event quickly fell apart. He called affordability concerns a “hoax” and insisted prices are falling, despite inflation still being positive and many costs rising. Trump made false claims about wages, food stamps, rent, dairy, and even Thanksgiving prices while the crowd reacted skeptically.
There was a dark moment in Trump’s Mount Pocono rally involving his press secretary Karoline Leavitt. Trump praised her physical appearance in front of the crowd, focusing on her “machine-gun lips” and television presence. In many workplaces, this would be considered sexual harassment, yet Trump continues it regularly.
Trump’s interview with Dasha Burns went viral after he graded the struggling U.S. economy an “A-plus plus plus plus,” highlighting how detached he is from Americans’ hardships. He repeated false claims about the 2020 election, insisted prices are “coming down” despite ongoing inflation, and gave rambling, contradictory answers on Ukraine, foreign policy, and his own pardons.
Questions about Trump’s cognitive decline are clearly rattling him. He posted a rambling late-night essay on Truth Social claiming he is the hardest-working, healthiest, and smartest president ever. The post is full of debunked claims about stopping wars, creating the “greatest economy,” and perfect medical marks, while obsessively highlighting repeated cognitive tests.
Jessica Tarlov, the lone liberal on Fox News’ The Five, endured another segment built on Trump blaming Joe Biden for current economic struggles. She dismantled the narrative, citing layoffs near Great Recession levels, rising household costs, shrinking manufacturing, and Trump’s tariffs and farm bailouts. Tarlov’s rebuttal underscores the absurdity of the GOP argument and shows voters are not buying Trump’s gaslighting on affordability.
Finally, Ramesh Ponnuru, a senior fellow at the American Enterprise Institute and a longtime writer and editor at National Review, joins us to discuss Trump’s takeover of the Republican Party and the future of the conservative movement.
