Donald Trump has deployed heavily armed federal tactical units in Washington, D.C., effectively placing the city under federal control. Citing a crackdown on crime and homeless populations, Trump invoked Section 740 of the D.C. Home Rule Act to take over the Metropolitan Police Department and ordered the removal of unhoused people, framing this as necessary to “make the capital safer and more beautiful.” Despite falling violent crime rates, this move represents a stark authoritarian escalation, normalizing militarized federal intervention against marginalized communities and signaling intentions to extend similar control over other cities.
Meanwhile, Vice President J.D. Vance attempted to defend Trump amid the Jeffrey Epstein scandal by deflecting blame onto Democrats, ignoring that Trump was a Democrat during the time of Epstein’s alleged crimes. Vance’s defense failed under basic fact-checking and overlooked Trump’s control over figures like Pam Bondi who have so far withheld the files.
On the economic front, tariffs intended to penalize China have spectacularly backfired, driving up costs for American businesses, inflicting harm on farmers, and triggering job losses. Inflation continues to persist, undermining the promise of lower prices, while Trump’s tax cuts overwhelmingly favor the wealthy, leaving middle- and working-class families behind as millions risk losing Medicaid coverage.
Trump has also renewed personal attacks on women who challenge him, including Congresswoman Jasmine Crockett and Nancy Pelosi. He disparaged Crockett with sexist insults questioning her intelligence and called Pelosi a “disgusting degenerate” over insider trading allegations.
Finally, Katie Miller, wife of Stephen Miller, launched a lifestyle podcast aimed at moms but that mainly serves as political marketing within a highly coordinated right-wing media ecosystem. This demonstrates how cheap technology combined with strategic messaging has given conservatives a media advantage over the fragmented left.
