Here is where I disagree. The above may or may not be true. I have read the underlying studies from which that is drawn. They admit, the statistics are questionable. I highly suspect analysis was done with democrat thumbs on the scale. Crime statistics are notoriously flawed. A persons citizenship is not well documented in crime. Establishing citizenship is a whole layer of complexity that police departments do not have the resources to determine. When they do, racism is screamed.
Many crimes are not solved so we do not really know who did it. Take the kidnapping of Nancy Guthrie. We do not know who did it, but it is suspected Mexican cartels are involved. We darn well know illegal criminal activity is rampant in Arizona. Attempts by police (Sheriff Arpaio) to contain it immediately get charged with racism and the full force of feds smother police efforts. This alone helped to elect Trump.
The "fact" is the US has a crime problem with our own legal lowlife citizens. So adding to that problem with illegals just makes it worse. What really irks me is that the "lower" crime rate infers that illegals are better than the US citizens. Seriously????
Reasons why it is credible the reported crimes among immigrants are lower:
First off, it should be a given that people are people and not all people are perfect.
Immigrants whether legal or not, are afraid their ability to stay here can be removed for even a small infraction of the law.
While some cities (and one state) are 'Sanctuary' most are not, and if one person (whether immigrant or not) reports a crime, any and all immigrants that might be questioned as possible witnesses and their status of being able stay here comes under question.
Reality, MOST crimes are committed within a given community, for instance inside a family, inside a neighborhood... in large part based on opportunity and emotions, which are typically 'pushed' by people they know.
Most immigrants do not take 'America' and everything in it for granted, and certainly do not take for granted any 'safety net' the rest of us enjoy. In fact there are often laws preventing them from receiving any aid, even medical care. So they work extra hard. It is hard for them, (unless a company is sponsoring them for a work visa) to get a decent paying job, so what they get is HARD jobs, or LOW paying jobs (or both, and more than one often) which keeps them too tired for mischief.
Then of course, because they are poor (like so many of our own citizens) they can become desperate, so we assume desperate people break the law (as opposed to the greed which produces so bloody much white collar crime which creates even more 'desperate' people) and therefore, because we legally oppress them, they MUST be criminals, which can become self fulfilling, especially when so many start off with "They are illegal, so they are criminals", or because they do not speak clear English, or thrown in jail for something you would never even get a ticket for... and then it is on their record, if they are even allowed to remain in the country.
You know the stories from Trump are either LIES (because he lies all the time, completely making up stories) or cherry picked crimes. If there are millions of immigrants, it would be fantastical to think there are no truly bent, deranged, even brain damaged people among them.
The REASON why many Cities have become Sanctuary cities is because the POLICE were frustrated in their efforts to capture really bad criminals, because they 'hid' inside the immigrant community, even preying on the immigrants, because everything the police went to investigate they could not find anybody to interrogate, let alone offer evidence, because the police practice was to take names etc including citizenship status, and before you know it, valued family members not connected to the crimes, or even victims of the crimes where shipped out of the country. Pretty harsh penalty for being a victim of a crime, right? SO NOBODY would talk, so it was the POLICE who pushed for the policy that they were not to assist ICE etc in 'finding' such people, though they did hand off to ice the nasty predators, with no value to the community who after being released from custody (perhaps after serving their time) would find themselvs in the Custody of ICE.
So yes, another reason it is down among immigrants is because 'repeat offenders' have to first get back into the country.
Maybe the reasons that brought them here in the first place may reduce their likelihood of criminality, I do not know, but I tend to think most people who are criminal by nature are going to put a lot of effort into going to another country. Some will, most won't.
Organized crime is a whole other complexity, but we already have our own organized crime, so not sure why any given policy would significantly change that.
Unfortunately, it will take a lot of effort to reach the people this has happened to. Not just because it is incorrect information, but because it was something they "wished to" believe.

SO NOBODY would talk, so it was the POLICE who pushed for the policy that they were not to assist ICE etc in 'finding' such people, though they did hand off to ice the nasty predators, with no value to the community who after being released from custody (perhaps after serving their time) would find themselvs in the Custody of ICE.
So yes, another reason it is down among immigrants is because 'repeat offenders' have to first get back into the country.
Maybe the reasons that brought them here in the first place may reduce their likelihood of criminality, I do not know, but I tend to think most people who are criminal by nature are going to put a lot of effort into going to another country. Some will, most won't.
Organized crime is a whole other complexity, but we already have our own organized crime, so not sure why any given policy would significantly change that.

Unfortunately, it will take a lot of effort to reach the people this has happened to. Not just because it is incorrect information, but because it was something they "wished to" believe.
They love blaming immigration, saying "they are the reason I failed, they are the reason that I can't succeed, they are sucking up all the jobs and look at all the foreign run gas stations, why do they get to own things here!" "speak the language!" I've heard it all, I work and live in a blue city now but am from a more rural part of PA that was pretty red during 2024.
Fast forward a few years. I do not believe most republicans want to see people mistreated, but there are enough who truly do want that! Sickening but true. Racists are alive and well in all of our states but mostly, the Southern states. These "for-profit" holding centers (concentration like jails) are unnecessary because these people aren't criminals and do not need to be in jails. (and no matter the statistics, one immigrant will commit a crime, and the right will exploit the heck out of it)
Facts cannot become partisan. Facts are simply facts.
I think what has to happen, is ending networks that are tabloids trolling politics for drama to inflate. It's killed our nation, really. I am not sure it can come back.

Not just mass voter suppression but also how easily tabulators and other election equipment can be hacked and manipulated. 2024 needs to be fully investigated, hand recounts and full forensic audits are required in all swing states.
