Today is Thursday, October 9, 2025, and this is your news and preview of today’s show.
Israel and Hamas are moving closer to a potential ceasefire after two years of conflict. Both sides have reportedly agreed on initial terms for a deal that could include a swap of Israeli hostages for Palestinian prisoners. Once Israel’s cabinet signs the agreement, Israeli forces are expected to partially withdraw from Gaza within 24 hours, with Hamas given 72 hours to release the hostages. Despite this progress, key questions remain, including whether Hamas will disarm and if Israel will halt military operations. Additional negotiations are expected before any longer-term ceasefire can take hold.
In Washington, tensions continue in Congress. Senators confronted House Speaker Mike Johnson over delays in reviewing the Epstein files, while House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries engaged in a heated exchange with Representative Lawler regarding Medicaid cuts. A Republican military wife also confronted Johnson on C-SPAN, criticizing his handling of congressional priorities and health care reform, highlighting growing frustration among party members.
Meanwhile, President Donald Trump is under scrutiny after accidentally posting a private message to Attorney General Pam Bondi last month on Truth Social, in which he instructed her to pursue prosecutions against political opponents, including James Comey. The public message raises questions about the impartiality of the case against Comey, who has since been indicted and pleaded not guilty to charges of making false statements to Congress and obstructing a congressional proceeding.
Donald Trump is scheduled for a medical evaluation at Walter Reed Hospital this week, officially called a routine checkup. However, concerns have been raised about his cognitive and cardiovascular health, including swelling in his ankles and occasional speech issues. With Trump now 79, many are watching closely for signs of fatigue or impairment, and calls are growing for independent evaluations and full transparency.
