Today is Wednesday, September 17, 2025, and this is your news and preview of today's show.
Tyler Robinson has been charged with the murder of conservative activist Charlie Kirk. Prosecutors say Robinson spent more than a week planning the attack, left a note saying he “would take the chance” to kill Kirk, and later confessed in text messages. He allegedly asked a roommate to delete those texts. With added enhancements for crimes near children and political motivation, Robinson could face the death penalty.
In Washington, Kash Patel clashed with senators in heated testimony. He called Senator Cory Booker “an embarrassment” and labeled Senator Adam Schiff “the biggest fraud to ever sit in the Senate.” The exchange drew sharp rebukes from Democrats, while some Republicans defended Patel’s tough approach.
On the economy, grocery prices jumped 0.6 percent in August, the sharpest rise since 2022. Senator Elizabeth Warren noted steep year-over-year increases, including coffee up 26 percent, beef up 14 percent, and milk up 4 percent. Critics say Trump’s tariffs are fueling higher costs, while the White House insists inflation remains lower than under Biden.
At the Justice Department, a report naming far-right extremism as the top domestic terrorism threat was removed from its website. The study, produced by the DOJ’s National Institute of Justice, said far-right violence continues to outpace other forms of extremism. Officials say materials are under review after Trump’s executive orders. The removal comes just days after Kirk’s assassination, which Trump blamed on left-wing violence.
Abroad, Trump’s visit to Britain drew large protests. Images of him with Jeffrey Epstein were projected near Windsor Castle, and Channel 4 announced plans to air a marathon of his false statements. Polling shows America’s global image has slipped since Trump’s re-election, with nearly 60 percent of Britons viewing him unfavorably.
Finally, Trump suggested his administration may pursue media outlets he considers unfair, calling their coverage “hate speech.” Free speech experts warn that would be unconstitutional. Even Tucker Carlson criticized the idea, calling it a denial of Americans’ rights and hinting it could justify civil disobedience.
