Today is Tuesday, September 2, 2025, and this is your news and preview of today's show.
At the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit, the leaders of China, Russia, and India stood together in a public show of unity. They announced a new development bank, an energy platform, and wider use of China’s satellite system, all designed to bypass U.S.-led institutions. Twenty-seven nations took part, signaling what Beijing called a shift toward “fair” multilateralism. The summit followed Trump’s decision to impose 50 percent tariffs on India, which in turn pushed New Delhi closer to Beijing despite historic rivalry.
Financial markets plunged today after a federal appeals court ruled that President Trump’s global tariffs were unconstitutional. The tariffs, expected to raise $172 billion this year, could now be rolled back, with billions refunded to importers. Bond yields surged, with the 30-year Treasury nearing 5 percent and the 10-year topping 4.29 percent. Rising yields mean higher borrowing costs for the government, mortgages, and consumer credit. Wall Street fears the loss of tariff revenue will widen the deficit and force more borrowing. Trump blasted the ruling as partisan and vowed to appeal.
Questions about the president’s health are growing. The White House was caught posting an outdated photo of Trump with former football coach Jon Gruden while the president stayed out of public view for six days. When he reappeared on a golf course, cameras were kept more than 100 feet away and reporters were barred from taking close-ups. The secrecy has fueled speculation about his condition, with viral threads pointing to possible minor strokes and noting changes in his speech and gait.
Those concerns deepened as Trump’s social media posts shifted in tone. His usual erratic style has been replaced with polished, punctuated statements, raising suspicions that aides are writing for him. The timing, coinciding with his absence from public view, has sparked questions about whether the president is physically or cognitively able to communicate.
Adding to the mystery, video surfaced of heavy black bags being thrown from a second-floor White House window. The spot aligns with the Lincoln Bedroom suite, currently under renovation. Some speculate the bags contained medical waste, though the White House has not commented.
